12/31/2004 11:15:00 AM|W|P|FF|W|P|As the year draws to a close, I'm starting to feel a little melancholic and nostalgic. But as Bubs so nicely reminded me, this is a time to be happy. What are you guys doing tonight? I have a date tonight. But I foresee myself being safely tucked in bed by midnight. I feel too sombre and old for confetti and countdowns. Till next year you guys! *clink*

Nearly a decade ago, she was diagnosed with colon cancer and given three months to live. Three months later, we were all amazed that she completely recovered from the cancer. It was really a miracle. When my dad told her last week the cancer had resurfaced and she had to go for surgery, she was very matter of fact and strong. I don't think I've ever seen her cry. She is probably the strongest woman I've ever met. My dad says I'm a lot like her. That's a compliment. My paternal granddad passed away when my dad was in his teens. Granny raised seven sons on her own. Four of them are now doctors, two are general managers of MNCs and another one is a manager in a bank. Amazing yes? Some of her sons are very protective of her and sometimes there are a lot of politics in the family because they are always vying for her attention. But that's a different story altogether. We were never close to her cos she favoured her eldest son's children. We didn't miss the attention because we're our maternal grandparents' favourite grandchildren. They dote on us. But sometimes I wonder if granny and us could be closer if we made the effort? I think I'd definitely regret it if one day she passes away and I realise I didn't know my paternal grandma at all. I promise to make an effort when I'm next back. Very soon, I plan to draw up a family tree. It's going to be tough but I think it's a great way to pass down history to the next generations. I wish I knew who my ancestors were but rumour has it I have Thai blood running through my veins. Once, I went downstairs to the coffeeshop and the server came over to take my order... Sidetrack: Everybody's so hi-tech now that when my gf E and I were at Edo Sushi and saw a sign which read "Please place your order with the server", we actually looked around for a computer server. Anyway, the damn server spoke to me in Mandarin. I replied her in English saying I wanted beef rice. She asked me something I didn't understand and I told her I can't understand Mandarin. She just went on and on and on in Mandarin till I got so fed up I said yeah ok when something sounded familiar. The beeyutch got my order wrong and gave me beef fried rice. Then, along comes an ang moh (Caucasian) family at the next table. To my utter disgust, she asked them in perfect English what they'd like to eat and started recommending dishes. Got slang somemore! Fucking beeyutch! Many times, I got very pissed off in uni, especially when we were having project discussions. I made it very clear I don't understand ching chong speak Mandarin, and those asshats would start the conversation off in English, but switch to Mandarin few minutes later. Same thing happened when we had a Malay guy in our group. So, when the Malay guy, myself and another fella were sub-grouped, we started speaking in Malay, much to the annoyance of the other Chinese guy. Serves you damn right! Just found out that half the population of China can't speak Mandarin, which goes to show that being Chinese is not about being able to speak Mandarin. So don't give me that sympathetic look when you find out I cannot speak the language. You'll just be pissing me off. And, I would say it's more affectionate to communicate in Mandarin. Though of course, if a person is as persistently annoying like the waitress, then it's her fault.

Update: I just found out a friend of mine was in Phuket during the tsunami. On the morning of the disaster,... ...he overslept, else he would have been strolling by the beach and would have met the tidal waves face on. He awoke abruptly when he heard screams coming from below. By the time he rushed to his window, the stalls from the beach had washed in his hotel pool. People were running around shouting and screaming. He quickly packed up and left the hotel. He witnessed firsthand the corpses and the devastation caused by the water. I will never look at life the same way again, he told me solemnly. As soon as he got back from Phuket, he bought himself an electric guitar despite not having touched one in twenty years. As his fingers strummed the chords of familiar James Taylor songs, he reminisced about a time two decades ago where he actually sat back and relaxed while inhaling the very essence of life. You see, he's a very busy man running an office, working six day weeks late into the night. And now he realises what he's been missing. Here are some of the pics he took:

In the Bill Payment function, select "RED CROSS TIDAL WAVES ASIA" as the payee.

FF, you'll need a current account to use a cheque book. Most banks would have some hybrid savings/current account product, like DBS Autosave or UOB 121, which allows you to earn interest (albeit at miniscule rates) and have a chequing feature.12/28/2004 11:23:00 PM|W|P|Blogger Vera|W|P|i have closed my current a/c. And it hit me that no matter how we're all divided by race, religion and nationality, the emotions are the same wherever you go. The grief and sorrow we feel when we lose a loved one, or the sadness, despair and helplessness when we see dead bodies of children washed up to shore - that doesn't differ from country to country, race to race or religion to religion. We are all humans, struggling to survive in this harsh and unpredictable world. It also reminds me once again that we're just a dot on the world map. We are such fragile creatures unable to control Mother Nature and sometimes we can't even predict what she's up to. How scary is that? But if we live in fear from day to day, we might as well not live. And so, my one and only resolution for next year is to live life like it's my last day alive. It doesn't matter if you believe you'll go to heaven, hell or be reincarnated after you die. What matters the most is what you do when you're alive and kicking. Let's all embrace life and live life to the fullest! We might die tomorrow, but at least we know we lived today. |W|P|110420860138102258|W|P|Life Is So Unpredictable|W|P|ms.finicky@gmail.com12/28/2004 12:51:00 PM|W|P|Blogger FF|W|P|Oh Bubs, you are evil! I didn't mean what I said in a literal sense you know.

For example, if you've been scrimping and saving for your retirement such that you don't enjoy your life now, then you should let your hair down and enjoy life a bit.

If you've been at loggerheads with your mom or dad, then make peace.

If you've been taking your gf for granted, appreciate her more.

If you've always wanted to go bungee jumping but didn't dare, go do it!

Stuff like that ya know?

But if i knew the world was going to end tomorrow, I'd fly home to be with my family and call all my loved ones to tell them I love em.

Somebody please explain to me how they got the Faberge Egg into the backpack and onto the train! Did I miss something? I'll be getting the keys to my new place in 3 days. How exciting is that?! I was going through my closet throwing out stuff I no longer need and found a dried bouquet of roses in there. I used to press and keep all the roses I've received in a vase, but soon the novelty wore off as I received more. I think I've received about 150 roses in the past 6 years. Considering the fact that I haven't received flowers in the past 1 1/2 years, I think I've been losing my touch. (And yes, when a girl says "Please don't waste money on flowers", she's lying I tell you! Liar liar pants on fire. It's a test to see if you'll be stupid enough to listen to her or go all out and be romantic by not listening to her. This however, only applies to flowers hor. Don't pretend to use the same concept when she says she doesn't need a juicer/blender/other kitchen appliances for her birthday). I was talking to mummy today and I told her that one good thing that came out of this year is that I have completely misplaced my temper. I suppose I can consider him a friend because he got me 5 cartons of illegal cigarettes a few months back and we do sms now and then to ask how the other is doing. I have never seen Victor in a serious mood. He's always making jokes and making fun of people. You know, that kind of juvenile 26 year old. (And I thought NS would toughen the guys up and make them mature quicker. And I thought wrong.) Anyway, today, he asked me if Penang was affected badly by the earthquake. And I replied, "Hey, thanks for your concern, but only the beaches were affected." His reply was, "Alamak, was hoping your home was destroyed, then you'd become a homeless immigrant!" Does his sentence make any sense to you? Technically, if I lost my home in Singapore, then I'd be a homeless immigrant right? If I lost my home in Malaysia, then I'd just be a homeless citizen, but homeful immigrant cos I still have a place to live in Singapore right? Jeez. And by the way, it's no wonder Victor is such a kid. He's the ex who hates me's good friend. And the biggest Ah Beng (wannabe) I've ever met. I didn't know what had happened then. I didn't realise the enormity of the earthquake till I watched the news on TVMobile this morning. 12,300 are dead, thousands have evacuated their homes and thousands more are missing. The earthquake caused tsunamis in India, Sri Lanka, Phuket and Penang.

43 people died in Penang, most of whom were watersporting along the Batu Feringghi beaches. About a week ago, my sister was watersporting there. It could have been her. My friend had also asked me to go for a holiday last weekend, and the obvious choice would have been Phuket because there's an AirAsia promotion on for the airfare there. It could have been us. A moment of silence please for the deceased and injured. So now, tell me you still believe the good, kind and loving God who cares about all of us? Why would He let such a thing happen? I'd really like to know. I asked my colleague who's a devout Catholic how she sees this catastrophe from a religious aspect. She said "God did this so He can make people closer to him and make them pray harder". One of my best girlfriends, let's call her Anne, is visiting from Penang and we decided to meet in Holland V at 7. She mentioned she was meeting another friend for dessert and I asked her who she was meeting later on and she said I wouldn't know him. I persisted and when she said his name, I nearly choked on my coke with lemon. Remember my ex who hates me(let's call him Ah Siao)? Her friend is Ah Siao's best friend's brother! I'd seen him once briefly a couple of years back. So I told Anne how I knew him and I was reeling from the fact that the world is so small. Anne studied in Oz and met him there last year. Anyway, the fella arrived and since Anne's really naughty, she told her friend I know him and left it hanging. She avoided the hot daggers I was shooting in her direction and I was forced to explain how I knew him. I just said I know your bro and his friends without elaborating too much. Fella asked which friend and so I had to say Ah Siao. By the way, I hated fella's brother with a vengeance. But that's a different story. So the next time this fella meets Ah Siao, he's going to bring up that he met a girl called FF who knows him. Shites. This is the ex I dream of every so often. Seems I can't get rid of him. I have blisters on my feet. :( After dinner, I spent a quiet Xmas eve with a friend. Ha ha ha. So hilarious. Please don't click below if you're sick of hearing about The Bug. He called me for Christmas brunch and so we went to Breko's as per my suggestion because they have a new breakfast menu I haven't tried. Wanted to go to Rosso, but it was a long walk from where he parked. Anyhow, after looking at the menu, I ordered the biggest breakfast (a whopping $4.60!) and an orange juice. He ordered a tiny bagel and no drink, much to my surprise because he's a big eater. At Breko, you're supposed to go to the counter with your order. He then realised he left his wallet in the car and so I fished out a $50 note and gave it to him. Now realising that I was going to pay for brunch, he changed his order - salmon sandwich, bagel meal and a cup of coffee! Ha ha ha. Isn't his lack of subtlety so frigging hilarious? Of course, I didn't really find it amusing at that time. Could he get any less subtle when he asked me... "Do you know I'm chasing you? What is the best way to tackle you?" which makes me sound like a 10 pound trout he's trying to catch. So, two nights ago, I went into his room, stripped down to my underwear and demanded payment in kind... NOT! Just kidding! I just asked him why he wasn't ashamed of owing people money for so long. He actually bowed his head in shame and said he was ashamed and he was still waiting for his dad to transfer the money over. Transferring only takes 1 day or less, I protested, and he just pleaded ignorance. Sigh. Last night, I heard rustling of bags in his room. I think if a someone tells you you're the type they'll marry next time, take it as a great insult and buck up! The marrying type is portrayed as someone extremely nice but a tad too boring to fuck around withdate. They don't fuck around withdate you because you're probably the type who's unable to separate emotions and physical er.. fun. And of course, if they tell you that you're the marrying kind, they'd also inevitably say they're not ready to be married yet because it's just a lame excuse not to date you. Again, I say, buck up! Show them you da man/woman! Get a new hairstyle, become a bastard/bitch and I guarantee they will come a-flocking! Now, if someone were to tell you you're not the marrying kind but the kind to fuck around withdate, or if that person uses the term bastard/bitch, you may grin all you like because that's a total compliment. Or if you're as ugly as fuck and getting married would be a mere miracle, then you'd be sad cos you just realised your chances of getting married are much less than you thought. Unless of course, you're desperate to get married, then it would be an insult. So, do people usually wanna marry you or fool around with you? |W|P|110367956843557049|W|P|Which Is It? Girl next door can also be wild what? Why cannot? Just because you're my neighbour doesn't make it illegal for you to "date". (interesting pseudonymn by the way. First time for me. Next time my parents grumble I'm vulgar, I'll just say "Date You!" err...no, that sounds wrong too.

But nah, you didn't gain a new reader. Just too lazy/busy to log in.

And contrarary to popular myths propagated amongst the girls, guys dun go out with you for your character. They go out with you for your looks first. Then when they are thinking of relationship/marriage, they consider your character.

So yeah, appearance is important to determine bonkable/boring. Of course, there's the third category of angelic faces, of which everything about them is perfect. They can do no wrong, and it would be a lucky man to marry them. We think. Heck, what can I say, we men are superficial visual bastards/bitches.12/22/2004 02:06:00 PM|W|P|Blogger FF|W|P|Anon>> Is that really true?? So when a guy says "that chick is the type I'd marry, not date", he bases that statement on physical appearance and not character?

Hmmm, you may have a point there. I spose if you're dowdy and nice, you'd be the type someone would marry but if you're fucking hot but nice, you'd be the type someone would date.

So yeah, you're right, we are superficial beings. How sad.

Pushlog>> Don't read too much into it. I'm talking about people who are still playing the dating game. And if that someone tells you you're the type of person she'd marry (this when you ask her out on a date) and not date, then you know you're not the kind of guy girls automatically flock too.

He expressed a lot of sorrow and regret that girls can be so cruel for wanting to end the relationship during the festive season. I've never seen him so sad before, usually he's always smiling and making jokes. Sigh. Love hurts, doesn't it? I wish the creator of mankind programmed us in such a way that we are born to fall in love and marry one person only. We will not be attracted to anyone else but that person. Guys will not be able to get an erection with anyone but the person he was matchmade with. Serotonin will only be released when you're in the presence of that person. Brilliant idea eh? We will no longer wonder if the one we're with is really the one or whether we're really in love or in lust. So anyhow, I'll most probably be going on a short trip next weekend with him in an effort to cheer him up. Will it be Bali, Phuket or Langkawi? I think he needs a good dose of whoring to cheer him up. I will go shopping while he er... indulges in er.. activities which will make him forget his pain. I'm now toastily brown burnt like a lobster. I went for dinner at Holland V earlier with PP wearing a pink sweater and I caught many people staring at my red face (which was extraordinarily pink no thanks to the pink sweater). I know they were looking at me cos they quickly looked away when I glanced at them. People don't like oddities. Bintan was very relaxing. We went to get a foot scrub at the spa, ate shitloads of food, swam in the beautiful pool by the beach and played volleyball on the beach. We were joined by two guys and girls who requested for us to extend our stay because they had a suite and five bottles of liquor which they needed help in finishing. As if we would. Mass orgy did come to mind. But nah. I am too lazy to post up pictures now. Tomorrow night, my colleagues, boss and I are going to have a sumptious seafood dinner at East Coast. Gonna eat shitloads of food again, which seems to be the tradition every holiday season. Need to shower and get some shuteye now. Hope you guys had as good a weekend as I did. P/S By the way, we got thoroughly laughed at when we went to the watersports hut and asked the fella in charge which watersports could we do without having to get wet. The chao ah beng hairstylist asked me what kind of hairstyle I wanted. He suggested I cut my fringe like his. His fringe was kinda gelled up so I couldn't really see what it was like so I told him to do as he pleased. I thumbed through the magazine and when I looked up, I nearly convulsed in shock. The left side of my fringe just touched my eyebrow. The right side of my fringe was nose length. Basically, I had a slanting fringe. Oh, did I mention, my left erotic eye was covered by the fringe?! He couldn't speak English or Hokkien so I asked him in Malay to please get rid of the slant cos I looked like a Chao Ah Lian. He seemed a bit insulted but did so anyway. I can't really say I liked the result, but compared to fringe ala slant, it looks much better now so I'm not complaining. Last year's meeting was held in the Marriott, this just a mere few months after the Marriott bombing in Jakarta. Needless to say, I didn't sleep very well the nights I was there. I think that was the reason why all of us (MD included) got pissed drunk every night before we headed to bed. It's crazy when we're in love, like some unexplainable force has taken over our brain causing us to do things we'd never do under normal circumstances. I can't say I've done much cos I'm not the romantic type. Once though, (I was a poor student then), on my ex boyfriend's birthday, I rushed from work in a cab to Heeren to get him a huge lava lamp. I also bought him a ring he'd been eyeing and a pair of black dress shoes. I hid all the presents around the house and gave him clues to find the presents. He was delighted. I've not done that for anyone else since. Another time, when I was a very poor student too, I spent my whole month's allowance on a wallet for my ex and wrote a long love letter in his birthday card. He was so happy he cried when he called me to thank me. (If you're reading this, do you remember? ;)) Oh, and how could I forget the $500/mth I was giving another ex? That's about all I've done I think. Can you beat that? I'm sure you can. |W|P|110312496299320265|W|P|The Things We Do For Love|W|P|ms.finicky@gmail.com12/16/2004 01:21:00 AM|W|P|Blogger Zen|th|W|P|Love makes us all do crazy things. I came back from lunch to find 8 emails from the same engineer. He then follows up with 3 pages of instructions through fax and a phone call. KNN! And he said I forgot to quote him something earlier. I didn't forget. His colleague told me no need to quote. I'm supposed to be some frigging mind reader with ESP! He is a pi sai! * Woooooooooooooooo Ssssssssaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. * pi sai - booger in Hokkien I am not finished bitching. I think it's ridiculous that my boss likes our office to be in charge of everything. This means I'm the middleman. If the customer has a shipping problem, he comes to me, I go to my shipping dept, my shipping dept replies with a question, I go back to my customer, and then back to my shipping dept... It's a vicious cycle. Do you know how much of my time I waste bouncing back and forth? All the emails that come to me from my factory are almost always forwarded to my customers and when they reply, I forward them back to my factory. I am also a frigging debt collector because our finance dept has to come to me to collect money from our customers. We have a whole finance dept yet I'm the idiot knocking on doors collecting payment. I think the structure in my company sucks. But that's the way my boss wants it. create your own visited country map It's humbling to know how little of the world I've seen. My new year resolutions are to see more of the world and get married (ha!). After I started working, I promised myself I'd go to places I've never been. Last year, I went to Bangkok and Indonesia for the first time and this year, I went to Melbourne. This weekend I'm going to Bintan and I am supposed to go visit a good friend of mine in the US in April but I don't think I can afford it anymore. Actually, I loved Melbourne so much I'll probably go there again in April and take a road trip somewhere else. Coolness! I also want to go to Hong Kong again cos I went there when I was really young and it was frigging windy and they closed down the rides in Ocean Park (I was so sad). I lived in Wales for a few years when I was a kid but I don't remember it at all. So Wales is a must. So are Italy, Greece, Germany, Switzerland and France. I saw a travel show (with Asha Gill) about Buones Aires and I think I'd love to visit BA before I die. Japan, China and Taiwan are a must too, but the latter two maybe when I've improved my Mandarin. Many of my memories are stored in the deep recesses of my brain, only to emerge when something or someone triggers them. I had to laugh when I read GJ's testimonial of me. A lot of memories were triggered when I read this post. Twas many years ago when i was a haughty little miss, looking down my nose at the corny activities we were forced to endure during orientation. I had brought one of my Mills & Boons books (which GJ wanted to borrow after I was done) along and pretended to be immersed in my own world. Everybody spoke Mandarin and were so chirpily cheerful which spiralled me deeper into my misery. I missed Penang, I missed my then boyfriend, I missed my college prom. I hated Singapore, I hated NUS, I hated orientation. One of the games involved members of the group standing in a straight line. The first person in the line was given a banana and had to pass the fruit to the person behind him, and that person behind him to the person behind him, etc. etc. Oops, did I forget to mention you could only use your mouth? I was even more disgusted at the next game, when some idiot forced me into a gunny sack and made me hop hop hop like a crippled wabbit to the other end of the corridor. I cannot believe how much I've grown since then (not physically - as a person!). My perspectives have changed by leaps and bounds, and I believe Singapore has made me a better person. For that, I'm grateful. If I had gone to the University of Malaya or some other obscure university in Malaysia, I'd probably be a psychological mess now, possibly a victim of snatch thievery, molest or rape. My blood pressure would be sky high from trying to maneuver my little crap Kancil through the congested streets. I'd look forward to my annual Christmas trip to Singapore every December to take photographs of the Christmas lights at Orchard Road and even more pictures of the Merlion. I'd probably be earning RM2,000 per month and wouldn't be able to afford to buy more than a couple of Esprit shirts (Esprit very expensive in Msia). Hur hur. I'm so glad I have the memories I have today. So very very glad. |W|P|110284092455500780|W|P|Memories|W|P|ms.finicky@gmail.com12/12/2004 07:42:00 PM|W|P|Blogger cheeky|W|P|I like Jeon Ji-hyun! He picked me up and we went to the noodle place at IMM. The handmade noodles there are delicious! We ordered one bowl of noodles and a drink each. Anyway, I didn't have cash with me so I used my card to pay for lunch - $25. He handed me $7. . . . Do any of you sense anything wrong with the equation? I told him to keep the money and he did. I must have been seriously mean in my past life. God keeps hurling these cheapo guys in my direction. Somebody asked me yesterday why I am able to keep in touch with most of my exes. I know a lot of guys who start a "hate and ignore ex gf" campaign after their relationship ends, but I find this ridiculous. You have to remember, once upon a time, this person meant the world to you and vice versa. This person made a difference in your life, showered love and care on you, and probably would have died for you. Doesn't this warrant a little respect, affection, friendship and civility at least? I am so craving for Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia (is that what it's called?) now. God help me, I'm going to spend $11 on a pint of ice cream. It's no wonder I'm always broke. Update: Whoa, heard it on the grapevine someone asked why cheapo guys always get attacked and we should understand that sometimes guys are short on cash. Yes. Absolutely. Short on cash, then please don't ask girls out and make them pay for you. Asking them out and going Dutch is fine. But no freeloading please. Me, being the silly feline that I am, opted to wear court shoes I had only worn once before for the interview yesterday. By noon, I was limping because of the blisters formed on my feet. It was torture, so much so I nearly bought a pair shoes to ease the pain. GJ so very kindly carried my bag and lent me his arm, thus becoming my crutch. It got so bad at one point that I took off my shoes and walked barefoot along Orchard Road. People gave me odd looks and I could feel the dust on my feet so I hastily put them back. GJ managed to get a cab for me and I limped pathetically to the cab and slumped in the backseat once I was inside. This is what happens when the champion sperm wins the big feet genes.

When I wear court shoes, I should wear size 7.12/10/2004 08:58:00 AM|W|P|FF|W|P|The interview was tough. "If I ask you to show my cousin from London around in Singapore, where would you take him?" "Every keeps telling me good things about themselves. Tell me something which will make me remember you." At this point, I said I speak better English than 90% of the Singaporeans here. Ha ha. HEYY! Stop throwing those tomatoes at me, you're messing up my hair dammit. "How does your desire for this job match the company policy?" Er,... wot?! I had a look at the commission structure, and it was really high! He said the low achievers earn about $6k per month and last month, a girl earned $27k! And mind you, this is no small company. They are involved in hospitality for VIPs for events such as the 2006 World Cup, the Malaysian Grand Prix, China Grand Prix, The Lions Tour, etc. So my dilemma yesterday was, should I risk my stable job for the promise of money? Or should I forgo money and embrace stability? He gave me his namecard and asked me to call him this morning to tell him whether I'd be interested in a second interview. I'm going to say no. Cos I'm not a risk taker, my parents would kill me and if I don't do well, I'm going to have to survive on love, which I don't have. So basically, I'd die. After the interview, I went to Orchard to watch National Treasure with GJ. I enjoyed it thoroughly because I'm a fan of Nicholas Cage and the movie reminded me so much of my favourite book, The Da Vinci Code. I was harassing GJ on how he never introduces his guy friends to me. Since he's working in the army and all, I reckoned most of his friends are strong, young and muscular men. Hrmph. Anyway, I thought long and hard yesterday about my inability to take risks and I realised it's the same where my love life is concerned. I'm always holding out for THE ONE and that's stupid. I'm wasting my life away. So now, I'm going to date guys casually and stop looking for love. Watch watch!!12/09/2004 11:06:00 PM|W|P|FF|W|P|On my birthday this year, my dad smsed me this: "Dear FF, your mother and I are so glad that 24 years ago, you were the champion sperm to reach the egg. We love you." I kid you not. My dad's hilarious in a corny way. I love him to bits. You know what? All of us are champion sperm. We raced ahead of millions of other sperm, using our tails to forge ahead and reach the egg first. Let's all give ourselves a big pat on the back.
Were we the sperm or the egg?
My question is, if I were to go back into time and shrink back into a zygote, knowing what I do now, would I still want to win the race? I'd probably stop and let all the other swimmers pass me by, whilst sniggering that they don't know what the hell they're getting themselves into. Ah well. Life has not been easy. I've been challenged in all aspects of my life. Hell, everybody goes through the same things I do - some better, some worse. Yet, their outlook on life remains positive. I try to be a positive person, but sometimes it's so tough that all I want to do is hide my head under my pillow and stay there forever. There were times I closed my eyes and wished I would never wake up. Other times, I looked down ten stories and wondered if I had the courage to jump. But hey, this is life. And as a good friend of mine so kindly pointed out today, you will find life tough only if you complain it's tough. And I can pursue my dream career of flying an AV-8 Harrier for the US Marine Corps and shoot 30mm cannon shells at pig-fuckers in Afghanistan.

But I digress.

I feel thankful for what I have. The simple things in life keep me going and looking forward to a new day. The gossipy e-mail from a friend in Singapore. A steaming bowl of noodles. The beautiful 19-degree C day we had today. The photos of a friend's baby daughter.

I wasn't even given forewarning that it was an interview. "Why did you choose this email address?" "How are you going to speak to CEOs, VIPs and other impt people?" "WHat makes you think you're ideal for the job?" "What do you like about sales?" "What makes you good at sales?" NONSTOP QUESTIONS. I find sales very challenging and the adrenaline rush which you get from closing a sale you've worked so hard on, is indescribable. Having worked at both ends of the spectrum - procurement and sales, I realise my passion lies in sales.

I'm good at sales because I'm able to communicate with people from all levels. *dumb answer* I can also be very persuasive. :)

He also asked why I want to give up my job. I told him honestly, although my passion for sales is strong, I am lacking a passion for engineering. The food was very unique and quite delicious. They ordered a bottle of white wine and I was obliged to drink some (though I'm not a fan of wine). Surprisingly, it was very light and fruity. I don't like these kind of fancy schmancy places. I sat up so straight my back aches now. Also, I put a whole chunk of garlic in my mouth thinking it was water chestnut and I couldn't very well spit it out could I? So I swallowed the vile thing. We headed to Altivo at Mount Faber. It was my first time there and the scenery was amazing. Today's weather was beautifully cool and it made me feel as though the altitude was higher than it actually was. Such a romantic place! GJ>> Ya lor, I seriously don't like Germans at all. They're more haughty than other angmohs.12/05/2004 02:19:00 PM|W|P|FF|W|P|I was in the presence of Mr. Paul Van Dyk early this morning. A moment of silence please. . . . . . By 4:30am, I was ready to curl up and sleep on the sand. Then, Paul Van Dyk starts spinning, the crowd goes wild and a burst of energy filled me. It was simply awesome! Before that, we were grooving to Jazzy Jeff at the Hip Hop Arena. He was fantastic last night too. I mean, I've seen him spin before at Zouk's but it was nowhere close to last night's performance! I realise I'm a hip hop/R&B kinda girl! Met up with Ham (Horny angmoh) and Ryanson. Ham was drunk as a skunk and he and his friend danced with me for awhile. I noticed something perculiar though. Angmoh guys dance the same way! They have a "bounce-right-bounce-left" consistent pattern with awkward arm and hand movements. Maybe cos they have long arms? Or it's in their genes? I also went to see a palmist there. This is what he said about me: In relationships, you either love or hate. There's no in between. Because you put so much into your relationships, you always expect a lot from your partner. You get disappointed when they don't meet your requirements, but you have to understand that each person is unique and hence, there's only so much they can give. Learn to communicate more with your partner. You earn more than enough to live on, and I see money coming in very soon but the money goes out just as fast (no thanks to leeches like TB). Learn proper financial planning and you will be successful. Your career will fluctuate. In your current job, you are doing too many things at once. You need to focus and specialise more. Healthwise, I foresee you having back and throat problems, so be careful and take care. So anyway, I got home at 5:30 am and went to sleep immediately. Rascal rudely woke me up at noon by French kissing me. Ewwwwww. All in all, it was a great night! |W|P|110222906634338521|W|P|ZoukOut|W|P|ms.finicky@gmail.com12/05/2004 04:27:00 PM|W|P|Blogger littlecartnoodles|W|P|Is Jazzy Jeff the guy that used to work with Will Smith ?12/05/2004 04:44:00 PM|W|P|Blogger FF|W|P|Bubs>> He was very spot on with my character. May I? Here I go: 1) Ask her where she'd like to go (in my case, to eat bak kut teh at a food court in Redhill) 2) Do not, DO NOT, go around ordering food and leave your date at the table WITHOUT your wallet. She'd inevitably have to pay for everything and be pissed off at you. 3) When your date says she wants soursop juice, do not be a smart ass and order what you thinks she likes for her - in this case, avocado juice because: i) it's damn fattening ii) she asked for soursop juice
Avocado Juice
(fuyoh, which blog entry has sub-points ah?!) 4) So now you have two cups of avocado juice on the table and your date orders and additional soursop juice. Do not, DO NOT, pretend to arrange your chopsticks and move the bowls when the drinks man delivers the soursop juice and looks at you for the money for the 3 drinks. Your date might also pretend to move the bowls and arrange chopsticks. The poor drinks man will be waiting impatiently for his money. (By the way, kudos to The Bug for winning the "who can arrange chopsticks and move the ricebowls for the longest time" contest last night. He won two free avocado drinks). 5) When she's telling you her woes, do not further attack her. She was telling you to gain sympathy. And after she tells you she was telling you her woes to gain sympathy, do not pretend to sympathise with her then cos she knows you're faking it. 6) After you've made her considerably mad from the five points above, do not attempt to try to steal her food. If she hits your chopsticks with her chopsticks when you try to steal a piece of "yu char kuay", it means she doesn't want you eating her food because of the five idiotic things you did above. (This time, FF won the "do not let him eat your food" contest. Her chopsticks hitting chopsticks skills are the best. Disclaimer: FF is not cruel. After she had finished with the food, she graciously allowed The Bug to eat her bak kut teh leftovers, which he did with relish. He even picked up her eaten pork ribs to nibble on the remaining meat. That's the closest he'll ever come to kissing her.) 7) After dinner, when she asks you what you want to do now, do not say "Let's go to a motel ha ha ha." WRONG!! Must say "Let's go to Fullerton Hotel ha ha ha". If you cannot afford to say that, then send her home and go to Geylang to satisfy your urges. If you cannot afford Geylang, then say hello to right/left hand. 8) After her marvellous idea of going for a beer at a coffeeshop in Holland V, do not pretend to adjust the table when the beer man delivers the beer. She will inevitably have to pay for the beer and be pissed off at you because she ended up paying for every single thing the whole night. (Note: If you paid for dinner, let her pay for the beer) I hope this has helped you. Please print this out and read this religiously before your date with a girl. - THE END - |W|P|110212860691277443|W|P|What You Should And Shouldn't Do On A Date|W|P|ms.finicky@gmail.com12/04/2004 11:44:00 AM|W|P|Blogger FF|W|P|Bubs>> Are you really stingy in real life? ;)12/04/2004 12:20:00 PM|W|P|Blogger Mandrake|W|P|wah lau.. loser leh.. cannot make it..12/04/2004 01:04:00 PM|W|P|Blogger Vera|W|P|wah!! I swear, for a split moment there, my heart stopped beating and my soul jumped out of my body. It was the chef from the cafe. He's my age and it's amazing how juvenile guys can be sometimes. Chef was telling me about his girlfriend who's in the UK. They've been together for three years and lately, she seems to be rather busy. He said he knows girls so well that he's sure she's cheating on him. Girls are so like that wan. I told him not to pretend he's as innocent as he's trying to sound and true enough, he admitted he has two girlfriends on the side. Oops, two KTV lounge hostesses I mean. Tsk tsk. See, I told you FF knows guys very well. Did I mention I'm very determined to be different this whole month of December? Yeah, well, as I said earlier, I hope to end the year with a bang (not literally. Actually, literally would be good, but I'm just not that type of person). So anyhoo, The Bug asked me out for dinner and a movie tonight and I said yes. Why should I stay at home alone on a Friday night? Thing is, I know how a guy's mind works and how to play around with it. It's not very hard ya know. They aren't as secretive as us girls. They say what they mean even if they don't always mean what they say. They don't say "Of course I don't mind if you go out with the girls this weekend" whilst seething inside. But how can you call me an expert? If I'm such an expert, why am I single, lonely and actually contemplating joining SDU hmm? Single for the past six months too, which is a record for me! Phua Chu Kang? |W|P|110187888924996522|W|P|Pronounce It Right|W|P|ms.finicky@gmail.com12/01/2004 01:50:00 PM|W|P|Blogger cour marly|W|P|Lettius makes my ears bleed. You can go to m-w.com and listen to the official pronunciation of words. That way you'll never be wrong!

The one that makes me want to claw my eyes out is when people pronounce the word "their" as "thee-arh".12/01/2004 02:20:00 PM|W|P|Blogger Jayaxe|W|P|I once commented on how 'immediately' should be pronounced. Ee-mee-diot-lee or Ee-mee-jerd-lee?

I believe the first one is the standard way while the second one seems to sound nicer. And many people do pronounce the latter version!12/01/2004 02:33:00 PM|W|P|Blogger Unknown|W|P|I say "lechers".. think it's correct too..

Re Thursday / their, etc., I'm guilty of it sometimes.. It's so ingrained I can't change it.. I blame it on my Cheena pri school education...

And period: "menses" sounds really old fashion.. I say "that time of the month" or "period"..12/01/2004 03:37:00 PM|W|P|Blogger Cowboy Caleb|W|P|people always laugh at me when I say bro-tel12/01/2004 03:44:00 PM|W|P|Blogger FF|W|P|Cour>> Luckily I don't know you in real life, otherwise your eyes would have long been clawed out. :)

Aaron>> It's so small you can't find it? Hee hee.

Jay>> I pronounce it diot-lee

Woof>> Le-chers is not correct meh? I always pronounce it that way.

Cowboy>> You cannot pronounce it because you never go to those sorts of places so you dunno right? *snicker*12/01/2004 05:39:00 PM|W|P|Blogger adrock2xander|W|P|Good English always hits home with people who cant speak it as well...

My 14-month old blog is littered with posts on Singaporeans and their inability to speak it...

Really bizarre pronunciation : "QUESTION" as "qwes-tien" rather than "qwes-chun"

And I've heard some snob mention before that "WEDNESDAY" should be "whens-day" rather than "where-nes-day".12/02/2004 09:34:00 AM|W|P|Blogger FF|W|P|Adrock>> I feel that's so shameful yet they're proud of their Singlish?

Noodle>> I actually do pronounce it "whens-day". Snob alert!

Darren>> Boleh!!

Ivan>> But I don't understand wor. When I first came here and heard "lettius", I didn't understand at all!

Of course it's good that your fellow people understand you, but since English is an international language, it should be spoken right. We can slang all we want like "chop chop", "damn shag", etc. etc. but pronunciation is very important. Otherwise what's the point of having English as an international language if no one understands when we say a simple word like "lettuce" overseas?
